Q. Is this APB-2400 UL listed?

A. The panic bar is UL listed from the manufacturer and meets the ANSI Grade 1 specifications. The micro controller board is battery operated and not UL Listed. The electronic portion of the panic bar does not affect how the panic bar is designed to work from the original manufacturer.

Q. What color is the APB-2400?
A. The APB-2400 has a stainless steel finish. Additional finishes will be available in the future.

Q. What sizes does the APB-2400 come in?
A. The standard is 40” in length. The automated panic bar can be adjusted at installation down to 32” in length. The adjustment requires the end of the automated panic bar be cut down to meet the desired size. Custom sizes can be ordered as well.

Q. How many batteries are there in the APB-2400?
A. The APB-2400 requires two AA and one 9V lithium batteries that enable the automated panic bar to function electronically. The battery life is three to five years under normal scheduling.

Q. Does the APB-2400 work on double doors?
A. A mullion will be required on double doors so there is room to install a strike plate for the electronic locking mechanism. On double doors it is recommended that in addition to the APB-2400, a PB-2400 is purchased as well.

Q. What is the PB-2400?
A. The PB-2400 is an identical panic bar to the APB-2400 although without the electronics. If used on double doors, we recommend the purchase of the PB-2400 for aesthetic reasons. Both panic bars (from the outside) will match.

Q. What is ALS?
A. ALS is the software used to program the APB-2400. ALS is Windows based calendar software that allows the user to set the schedule of lock & unlock times. The schedule is saved to a mini SD card to be inserted in the APB-2400 to implement the schedule

Q. Does the APB-2400 require a special mini SD card?
A. A standard mini SD card is all that is required. One mini SD card and one USB to mini SD reader is included with the purchase of an APB-2400. The USB to mini SD reader is supplied in the event your computer does not have a min SD card port.

Q. Can more than one schedule be saved in ALS?
A. Yes. Multiple schedules can be saved. One copy of ALS is all that is needed to program several different doors. Schedules can be saved in the ALS software for future reference

Q. Does the APB-2400 account for daylight savings time?
A. Yes. This option is set by the user at installation.

Q. Does ALS have report capability?
A. Yes. A printed report for each door lock schedule is available in the ALS software.

Q. Does the APB-2400 account for holidays?
A. Yes. Holidays are chosen by the user whenever a new schedule is set. The holidays are based on standard US holidays. ALS does provide the option for the user to add additional holidays if they are not included in the ALS list provided.

Q. Can I program the door to electronically lock or unlock for the same time every day?
A. Yes. The ALS has many options for the user to program a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly schedule. These can be set one time in the recurring portion of ALS. Single lock or unlock times may also be scheduled.

Q. Does the APB-2400 work differently than a standard exit device, exit bar, push bar, or panic bar?
A. The APB-2400 works the same way as a standard exit device, exit bar, push bar, and/or panic bar. When the APB-2400 is in the unlock position, it is in the same position it would be if a key were used manually to place the panic bar in the unlocked position. The APB-2400 simply automates the process. When in the locked position the APB-2400 works exactly as standard exit devices.

Q. Is there an override feature if I want to alter the lock or unlock position in the middle of a schedule?
A. Yes. There is a button located on the end cap of the automated panic bar that is programmed during installation to either manually unlock or lock depending on the building managers preference. For example, the building management may desire to have the button programmed to lock the exit device in the event the building is closed earlier than the programmed schedule for that particular day. In this case the button would be programmed to lock only. The button can also be programmed to unlock as well.

Q. If the batteries die, does the schedule get lost?
A. No. There is an internal battery on the micro controller board that will hold the real time and calendar for up to six months after the batteries expire in the event they are not replaced within a reasonable time of the battery expiration.

Q. What if the batteries die in the middle of the day and the door is unlocked?
A. The APB-2400 is programmed from the manufacturer to automatically lock the automated panic bar when the batteries are low. Right after locking the panic bar the audible tone will be activated. This auto-lock feature is designed to protect the buildings ingress in the event of the batteries expiring. The APB-2400 will remain in the lock position until the batteries are replaced.

Q. Is there a low battery warning?
A. Yes. The APB-2400 has an audible tone that sounds when the batteries need to be replaced. In addition, future automated lock & unlock schedules will not work until the batteries are changed. The audible tone will sound every minute for two days until the batteries are removed or replaced. The manufacturer recommends replacing the AA & 9V batteries at the same time
.

Q. Is there a special battery required?
A. Yes. It is recommended from the manufacturer that lithium batteries be used for maximum performance. Lithium batteries can be found at most drugstores.

Q. How long will the APB-2400 operate on my door?
A. The APB-2400 is rated for 500,000 cycles from the manufacturer to provide automated access control.

Q, Does the APB-2400 replace my existing exit device?
A,Yes. The APB-2400 is designed to replace your existing exit device, exit bar, push bar, and/or panic bar. The key cylinder is standard size and should fit the existing hole in the door. Please visit our products specs page for details.

Q. What types of doors will the APB-2400 work on?

Q. Is the APB-2400 easy to install?
A.Yes. The APB-2400 is not complicated to install. There are 6 drill holes for the brackets of the panic bar and 2 drill holes for the strike plate. Some of the existing drill holes may line up with the APB-2400’s drill holes although you will likely have to drill some new holes in the door. It is recommended that you hire a local locksmith to install the APB-2400.

Q. Is the ApB-2400 easy to set-up and program?
A. Yes. The APB-2400 is extremely easy to program and set the lock & unlock schedules. The software is based on the Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
